Tape Measures & Trades people

This is a continuation of something I started in English today. To rehash what I wrote earlier. Basically I became frustrated in my work as a roofer over everyones obsession with the size of their tape measure. I had a situation at work where a co-worker (a female coworker I might add) asked me to use my tape measure. When I presented her with my tape measure she responded with a look of disgust on her face "What's this?". I responded with an explanation of what a tape measure was and how it worked. Apparently thats not what she wanted to here. Long story she went and got hers, which (I'm not even exaggerating here) was 3.5 times the size , with tape literally 2 inches across. Why do people find it necessary to always have bigger tools than others. I'd go further with this but I have a tooth brush in my mouth and I have a headache and dont feel like writing more. But the general idea here is people who decide they are superior to others based on the size of their tape measure bug me immensely.
