Whale Rider

Today we got to stop by the small Maori village were the film Whale Rider was set and filmed. We got a tour of the Marae (meeting house) and got to see a bunch of props from the film. We also were learned in a lot of the history of the area. It was really cool to see.

After this we went to this hostel in a place called Rangitukia which is in the middle of nowhere as far as I am concerned. I made friends with a guy on our bus named Simon and we played Ping Pong for the better part of two hours before our whole bus watched "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" in black and white because we couldn't get the TV to work properly.

The weather we had here was insane. It's the closest thing I have seen to proper rain since I left Victoria. The water was coming down with a vengeance. Some poor sod even had his tent flooded and had to relocate.

Today I also got to enjoy my first meat pie (these things are very popular in NZ). It was delicious.
