On to Westport and Jet Boating!

This morning we departed Nelson bright and early but not before encountering some hiccups with the bus brake system. This delayed us by about 15 minutes but before long we got ourselves on the road. We stopped for lunch at Nelson Lake and got absolutely abused by sand flies. On the way to Westport we stopped at Buller Gorge where Jennie, Malin, myself and a handful of others decided to go Jetboating. It was relatively cheap at $60NZD ($38.75CAD). We get ourselves suited up and boarded the jet boat after a short history of the jet boat (it was invented in Hamilton, New Zealand by a farmer). The tractor ride in the jet boat took about 15 minutes to get us to the water and once we got into the water we commenced blasting up stream at warp speed. It was a great deal of fun and we saw a ton of cool beautiful scenery on the way.

On the bus ride to Buller Gorge we played a game on the bus to get everyone familiarized with each other. People in the window seats stayed in their seat and aisle seats rotated every 60 seconds. Morrie called it speed meeting. It was a lot of fun and really brought the bus closer together.

After jet boating wrapped up at the adventure lodge and took the shuttle bus into town to be dropped off at our hostel. The hostel was nice. It had a really homely feel to it. It also had a nice kitchen. Jennie, Malin and our new found friend Sebastian (who got verbally assaulted in Swedish because he had a bag made by a Swedish company and they thought he was Swedish) journeyed off to the grocery store to get ingredients for dinner. I took with me a bottle of ginger beer that was not just warm but actually uncomfortably hot from sitting in the bus all day. It was oddly tasty though. For dinner we grabbed some pasta and pesto and I got some milk to go with dinner. I haven't had pesto in awhile - it was delicious.

After dinner we hung out in the girls room because they lucked out and got a double room for dorm price. After they went to bed I put some tracks on my iPod and hit the hay.
