Out of Auckland...finally!

I finally got myself out of Auckland and am now in Paihia in the Bay of Islands in Northern New Zealand. It's pretty cool. It is much much quieter than Auckland which is pleasant change. I am planning to stay here for two weeks or so.

My trip to Paihia on the Kiwi Experience began at 7:15AM this morning. My morning however started at 4AM because one of my Irish roommates who stumbled in drunk at 3:30AM had a MAJOR snoring problem so I just got up and showered and went downstairs and chilled with Mike, Seth and Jade. I made a point of packing all my stuff the day before so checking out was easy and painless. It was really nice to finally get out of ACB.

The bus ride up to Paihia took about 4 hours. We stopped for food about 1 1/2 hours in at this nice little cafe. I had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and a hot chocolate. After our half our stop we finished off the trip to Paihia.

The new hostel I am staying at is $7 cheaper per night than the one in Auckland if you book three nights at a time. It cost me $147NZD ($100.45CAD) at Base Paihia versus the $189 ($129.15CAD) it would cost me at Auckland Base. I opted to take the BBQ dinner they offer here for $12NZD ($8.20CAD) which gets you a "steak", a sausage, salad and baked cheese potatoes. It also got me a pint of eXport Gold. It was definately worth the $12NZD. I really enjoyed it. I ended up seeing three of my roommates at the BBQ and ate with them and then wandered around the town with them for a bit before we all went to bed. It was a good first night.

My roommates at this new place on the first night consists of four english guys and three english girls. Here are some photos of my room and the hostel.
