Today I was awoken by screaming in the street. My first thought (because I'm just this cool) was to bust out my Macbook and google "protesting auckland november 2008". However I decided to just go shower and forget about it instead. Later on when I went downstairs I heard more shouting and yelling in the streets and went to the window to see what commotion was about. Now if it weren't for the title of this post you would not guess in a million years what the commotion was. I looked out the window and saw that the workers of the MCDONALDS ACROSS THE STREET WERE ON STRIKE...LET ME REPEAT...THEY WERE ON STRIKE. They were marching around yelling things with megaphones and holding banners and signs. But I'm not a union man, I went over and got my $2NZD ($1.40CAD) cheeseburger. It wasn't a big deal though because apparently they didn't take their cause too seriously. By the time I got there (less than two hours after they started) they had subsided to just *sitting* by the door holding signs. So that was exciting highlight of today. I got to see fast-food workers go on strike - kind of.
